Environmental Protection

Our conviction

Umweltschutz ReichhartAs far as Reichhart is concerned, sustainable development means being able to satisfy the needs of the present without disregarding the commitment to safeguard natural resources for future generations. And there is no reason why ecological and business objectives have to contradict one another. Both of these objectives offer substantial economic advantages for our Logistics Group. Better results not only strengthen the trust and confidence of customers and employees alike, they also constitute the basis for growing popularity, which distinguishes a company the provides services in a more environmentally compatible manner the competition.

Our responsibility

Environmental considerations are being pushed into the background to an increasing extent by other problem issues, such as the tense situation in the labour market. At the same time, the natural resources air, water and soil are only available in very limited quantities. We must protect these resources it we want to preserve an environment that´s worth living in - and we should therefore really be talking about human protection rather than environmental protection - which means that all social groups are called on to become committed.

Our actions

We are capable of structuring our business activities to make them much more environmentally friendly by adopting a holistic way of thinking and integrating systems. What we are aiming to do is to make the way in which resources are used to provide the services offers by our divisions more ecologically compatible. And we have already taken several steps in the right direction with the following initiatives:

  • Carbon footprint
By means of our especially developed software we are able to determine the carbon footprint of your transportation inquiries and commissions. Our customers receive to every transportation inquiry an iReport illustrating the CO² emission.
The carbon footprint is determined with the help of a greenhouse emission calculator, which was developed under the scientific conduct of the DFGE - Institute for energy, ecology and economics. The DFGE evaluated the methodology, the basis of primary data for the computation and the CO² emission factors based on ISO 14040ff, VDI 4600, and corresponds to the state-of-the-art science. The tool consists of basic parameters to calculate intermodal transport chains, with truck, ship, train an airplane as transport carriers. Furthermore there is the possibility to illustrate the CO² footprint on the product and transmission structure of our client, so that the values can be re-used internally by our clients.
  • Fleet
A high volume of transport orders always implies a high impact on the environment. Apart from optimum, efficient, non-wasteful expedition of our own and contracted vehicle units, we also attach great importance to the deployment of low-emission vehicles. As far as our own fleet is concerned, this means that 85% of our vehicles are less than 2 years old. We also ensure that our partners use environmentally compatible, low emission vehicles. Our partners provide evidence to this within the framework of target agreements.
  • Energy management
A holistic approach is in the foreground when developing transport and logistics concepts for our customers. This means, for example, that we try to synchronise all activities, such as transportation, transhipment and storage, including the necessary personnel, equipment, energy and information, with one another to such an optimum extent that business efficiency goes hand in hand with the stewardship of the resources available to us. Our transport and logistics concepts are therefore oriented to the protection of our environment, as well as to successful business management.
  • Wase managment
Waste prevention: Modern electronic media offer the most diverse opportunities to exert a positive effect on waste prevention. As far as corporate communications are concerned, Reichhart has completely integrated telephone, fax, e-mail, correspondence, scheduling, intranet, reporting and licensing procedures on a common IT platform. This has brought us a great deal closer to our vision o a "paperless office". The continuous exchange of information and maintenance of our corporate culture also promote the stewardship of scarce and valuable resources.
Waste disposal: The sorting of waste has been very important to Reichhart for many years now and the segregation process is observed very strictly because we know that it is not possible to avoid waste completely according to the current state of the art.
